Job description

Third Way is a national think tank and advocacy organization that champions moderate policy and political ideas. Since our founding in 2005, we have served as a critical bulwark against political extremism by advancing values-driven, reform-oriented solutions on the defining issues of our time. Our work is grounded in the mainstream American values of opportunity, freedom, security, and democratic capitalism, and we advocate for the vital center across seven major areas: climate and energy, economy, education, health care, national security, politics, and social policy.

Third Way is seeking to hire a Congressional Communications Fellow to be placed on the staff of the New Democrat Coalition (NDC), the largest Democratic ideological caucus in the House of Representatives. This fellowship runs from January 3, 2027, through December 31, 2027. The fellow will report directly to the NDC Communications Director and help support the coalition's communications work. This program is designed to provide early-career communications professionals who want to work in center-left politics with hands-on experience while building a network on Capitol Hill and in Washington, DC. The fellow will interact frequently with Members of Congress as they produce content for the New Dems. Successful candidates will have strong digital skills and videography experience.

As the New Democrat Coalition Digital Communications Fellow, a typical day might include…

  • Working closely with the Communications team to draft, edit, and create content for social media;

  • Planning, recording, editing, and clipping short- and long-form creative content, including the New Dem podcast, the Fly In;

  • Drafting blog posts, video scripts, press releases, op-eds, speeches, and other written materials;

  • Assisting with compiling and drafting weekly newsletter;

  • Updating and maintaining the New Dems’ website;

  • Compiling daily press clips;

  • Other duties related to press, the media, and office operations as assigned.
